Important information regarding the legal purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Sultanate of Oman strictly regulates the sale, purchase, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Desert Trading Company (DTC) is committed to full compliance with all local laws and regulations.
1. Legal Drinking Age
The legal drinking age in Oman is strictly 21 years old. It is illegal to sell or supply alcohol to anyone under this age. Identification may be requested at any time in our retail outlets or partner establishments.
2. Religious Restrictions
Under Omani law, the purchase and consumption of alcohol is legally permitted for non-Muslims only.
3. Retail Purchasing (Ibraz Permit)
To purchase alcohol for home consumption from any DTC retail outlet, residents must possess a valid personal liquor license. This license is managed exclusively through the official Ibraz App, as mandated by the ROP.
Using the Ibraz App
For New Permits
Self-Registration: Residents can register themselves directly on the app. There is no need to visit the shop for registration unless you experience an issue. (Note: NOC is no longer required!)
- Download the official IBRAZ app to your mobile device.
- Enter your Residence or Civil Number.
- Enter your Mobile Number followed by the OTP Number.
- Your monthly license value and fee will appear on the screen.
- Once paid, you are now ready to shop!
* If you are unsure about the mobile number linked to your card, simply visit any of the Directorate General of Civil Status Offices across Oman to verify or update your contact number.
How it works for EXISTING permit holders
Existing permit holders do NOT need to apply for a new permit. The ROP Licensing Office will upload data into the new system, hence permit books remain valid for the time being until the ROP confirms otherwise. Please check in-store for updates.
